SLUGSoc LAN Events

We've run over 70 LAN events here at SLUGS. We provide power and super-fast gigabit internet to over 60 seats, and give our players a great time playing a variety of games! LAN favourites include Quiplash 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, League of Legends and Left 4 Dead 2, plus plenty more.

If you've never been to a LAN before, look forward to a fun weekend of gaming! Bring your desktop/laptop/console and get ready to enjoy your favourite games with friends.

LANs are normally hosted at the Edge building on Endcliffe Student Village, a great Sheffield location just past Broomhill and central to most student accommodation. Attendees get a metre of desk to set up their gear, along with internet access and two plug sockets. Other LAN benefits include our 24/7 tuck shop for midnight munchies, a non-stop LAN playlist for tunes, quiet rooms for a nap, a pub quiz, and a Saturday night pizza order. Come and join us!

What's a LAN?

A LAN party is a gathering of people with computers or compatible game consoles, where a local internet connection is established between them for the purpose of playing multiplayer video games together.

If you've never been to a LAN before, look forward to a fun weekend of gaming! Bring your consoles or computers and get ready to enjoy your favourite games with friends old and new. We provide cheap snacks, lightning-fast internet and a sleeping area.
Games aren't all, though - you can expect a great playlist, a quiz, and the undying LAN tradition of Pizza Time. Perhaps we'll screen a film too?

LAN Rules

As with any event at scale, we do have a Code of Conduct. We'll try and keep it short and sweet, but it's important that you click to expand each rule and read them in full.

Do not engage in illegal activity of any nature - in particular, we're vigilant of piracy, and consumption of alcohol is not licensed on the premises.
Please do not bring extension leads, as our power network is very carefully worked out so that we don't short out the venue or cause a fire! We provide everyone with two power sockets (one for a monitor and one for a PC/console), so you shouldn't need one.
Each attendee is allocated two power sockets. Please do not use any more than this.
We carefully plan and maintain both the power and network distribution layout in the room in the name of safety. It is important that it does not get modified so that your and others' equipment can operate safely with a stable internet connection.
Some attendees may sleep or leave their seats at the LAN. Do not use others' equipment without their permission.
This is an electrical hazard. Ensure all liquids are contained securely and will not spill if knocked over.
Respect other attendees both inside and out of games. Abuse of any form is not tolerated and comes with consequences.
If you injure yourself at the LAN you must tell a committee member. If you have a serious allergy or medical condition, please make the committee aware beforehand. Please observe the emergency exits and corridors and do not block them. Ensure you check in and out of the building with the committee / registration RFID scanner in case of fire.
When leaving the LAN, dispose of all waste. In particular, make sure you have all of your gear with you when you leave the event.
